Biography
.
Although born in south Devon, England, Monique Lovering spent most of her formative years in Australia and New Zealand, where she moved with her parents at the age of five.
.
Fashion was always a great love so she studied art at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia, choosing to major in graphics, with an eye to working on fashion magazines. After a spell with a film company and some months spent travelling in Europe, Monique was invited to join Australian Vogue, working in Sydney.
.
It was while there that she began to explore new ways to express her creativity. Her flat overlooked Sydney Harbour and by night, she would experiment with paint and paper, looking out over the city skyline. "I started to relive my years at art college. I seemed to be surrounded by artists at that time and I felt a sense of growing excitement – just going with my gut feeling and expressing whatever I felt at that moment. It was a journey of self discovery. The paper soon became canvas and I knew then that this was what I wanted to do: paint."

Statement
'Metamorphosis of being' is the title of this collection.
The multiple aspects of self are communicated through the Art making process; our desire to discover the true essence of self and the importance of love in human life.
Love, for me is the ultimate emotion, it is that which is common to us all and that which we are all in search of.
These emotions are expressed through the language of paint, charcoal, pencil and wax. The discreetness of each emotion is communicated in the texture and the multilayered placing of each medium.
Words whisper intimate feelings into the canvas through lines, poems and verses.
Hence the quotes in the work are ones of love, suffering, joy, pain and loss, human gestures from the souls of life.
Thoughts feature as running lines in a scribble motion and symbolic loops travel into the space.
My home in Palermo, Sicily, has enabled me to witness my core nature as a human being by seeing beauty in ugliness. Away from diversions my surroundings have enabled me to be still and dedicate time to the deep process of expressing the emotional realm in art.
